Dyslexic
children have a specific learning difficulty in relation to written
language skills. They may also struggle with Mathematics and they
may be dyspraxic (i.e. have poorly developed gross or fine motor skills).
Many dyslexic children also struggle with language processing, while
others may be clumsy, disorganised, forgetful and dreamy. They may
suffer from poor concentration, hyperactivity and low self-esteem
However,
dyslexic children are also frequently gifted in creative, imaginative
or sporting ability.
Dyslexic
children should be reassured that their learning difficulty need not
prevent them from achieving their full potential. They will have to
work hard to overcome dyslexia, but in doing so, they learn what they
can achieve through making an extra effort.
