Outreach for Schools

Supporting LiteracyTeachers’ Inset Seminars

In December 2015 we hosted the first of our Inset Seminars for Teachers and TAs of KS1 and KS2 pupils.  Aimed at supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in our local teaching community, the Inset provided practical help in identifying and supporting dyslexia in the classroom.  Invitations were extended through collaboration with local schools, a total of 34 individuals from
16 schools attended.

Partnerships with Schools

Since 2014-2015 our outreach programme has extended into our local community of schools.  Unicorn School teachers have visited local primary and secondary schools, delivering presentations to teachers, teaching assistants and parents of children who have literacy difficulties.  So far we have worked with Dunmore Primary School, St Edmund’s Primary School, Fitzharrys Secondary School and Didcot Girls School.  Further schools are lined up for the coming term.

Through our inset seminars and schools’ partnerships our outreach programme has already potentially benefitted up to 2,700 pupils in the local community, and our list of schools seeking our support continues to grow.  If you would like to find out more about how our outreach programme can benefit your school please contact our Outreach Co-ordinator, Mrs Clare Roberts, via The Unicorn School office.
